Deenaa

[Sameh x El Dahma II]

Although we, here in Southern Africa, are fortunate enough to have had only one direct descendant of this amazing mare, us South Africans are also blessed with a number of great-grand children and primal great-grand children of the famed mare, Deenaa, here and she, as there grand-dam and primal great-grand dam made a huge impact in the South African breeding scene.

El Dahma II

Deenaa (EAO 609) herself was bred at the Arabian state stud i.e. the Egyptian Agricultural Organization, (EAO) in Egypt.  She was born in 1967, sired by the very well known stallion, Sameh and was bred out of the grey Egyptian Arab mare, El Dahma 2 (EAO 224).  Her sire, Sameh was bred at Inshass Stud of King Farouk, Egypt and he died in 1967. He was at the time of her birth one of the EAO's primary stud stallions. He has sired some of the world’s most distinguished Egyptian-bred Arab horses, which includes, Sultann, Fawkia, Ibn Hafiza, and Serenity Sonbolah.

Deenaa’s dam, descents from the Farida Line, which was also a Root mare at the EAO.

Deenaa had an eventful life and traveled a lot.  She was sold and exported from Egypt, as a yearling to H J Huebner in Silsbee, Texas, USA but in November 1969 she went to Gleanloch Farms where she was bred to the very well known stallion, Morafic.  She stayed at Gleanloch farms until 12-January-1975 when Mr. Douglas and Mrs. Barbara Griffith of Imperial stud bought her where she only had one filly foal for them.  After this she went back to Texas to Jarrell Mc Cracken and was bred to their stallion Mosry.   In December 1977 she was sold to Les and Lois ST Clair of St. Clair Arabians, Wisconsin, where she only produced one filly before her passing in February 2002.

It is so sad that this exquisite mare, Deenaa only produced 6 foals in her lifetime and they were;

Ø           Hanan [sired by Morafic] a gelding, born 1971/03/03

Ø           Narimaan [sired by Morafic] a mare, born 1972/03/06

Ø           *Ahir [sired by Morafic] a stallion, born 1973/02/09

Ø           Imperial Fanniya [sired by Faleh] a mare, born 1975/05/05

Ø           AK El Sanaa [sired by Mosry] a mare, born 1977/08/03

Ø           Bint Deenaa [sired by Ansata Ibn Halima] a mare born 1979/01/14

*Ahir

In 1974 the late Dr. Valerie Noli-Marais, of Sahibi stud, imported one of Deenaa’s sons to South Africa.  This was the well-known stallion, *Ahir and he was bred at Gleanloch farms, in Houston, Texas, USA, where he was sired by the multiple champion producer, Morafic [Nazeer x Mabrouka].  *Ahir arrived on their farm in Tokai when he was nearly 2 years old.

In 1986 *Ahir was shown to become the SA National champion stallion, and he also sired a total of 87 offspring.  Most of his offspring have made their mark in the South African breeding history and features in numerous of today’s top breeding stock.

Amiri Sanaa

[The Egyptian Prince x AK El Sanaa]

An additional descendant imported to South Africa, of the great mare, Deenaa, is *Maistro [The Minstril x Amiri Sanaa], and he was bred by Mr. Sirgard, Texas, USA , and imported to South Africa by Mr. Jack Maritz of Sidi Arabians in Upington.  His dam, Amiri Sanaa [Egyptian Prince x AK El Sanaa], was born in 1983 and bred by Jarrell Mc Cracken in the USA.  Amiri Sanaa is a daughter of AK El Sanaa [Mosry x Deenaa] and she is still alive at age 25 years young.   She is currently residing at Arabians Ltd in the USA and is now retired.

Her very fine-looking son, *Maistro, sired quite a huge amount of offspring already and his offspring made a huge impact on the look of the Arabian horse of today in South Africa. He was also bred to the previously mentioned champion producing mare, Sahiby Juleemah and sired some lovely foals by her. *Maistro has still an active part in the South African breeding programs, since he is still being used and is available at stud in Vander Bijl Park at Jozaak Arabians of Mr. Johan Du Plessis.

Ibn El Mareekh

[El Mareekh x Bint Deenaa]

Next I’ve came across a mare, called *AS Marida who is the only daughter of the eminent stallion, Ibn El Mareekh, imported to South Africa, by Dr. Fanus Lues of Khalil Arabians in Pretoria.  She produced only a very few offspring sired mostly by *Maistro and two of his sons, Shari-Silic Shawan [out of Shari-Silic Shawania] and Sidi El Nabiel [out of *Arabest Halina]. *AS Marida also produced a filly, EKS Amazing, sired by *Romanza AA [Shaman AA x RA Crystal Rose] and she is currently owned by Nolene Fuhri Summerveld Country Lodge Kwazulu Natal.

AS Marida’s sire, Ibn El Mareekh was a very handsome Egyptian Arab stallion and is out of Bint Deenaa, obviously the daughter of Deenaa.  Bint Deenaa was sired by Ansata Ibn Halima and she is also the dam of the world renowned stallion, Anaza El Farid, who is the sire of ZT Faa’iq and Gazal Al Shaqab.

Anaza El Farid

[Ruminaja Ali x Bint Deenaa]

Of the latest imported horses to South Africa, who are descendants of Deenaa is the sons and daughters of Gazal Al Shaqab [Anaza El Farid x Kajora]. His connection to Deenaa is through his illustrious sire, Anaza El Farid [Ruminaja Ali x Bint Deenaa].

Gazal Al Shaqab boasts International Champions on both sides of his pedigree. He himself achieved Champion honours at several occasions and is bred and owned by the ruling family of Qatar, who owns and manage the World famous Al-Shaqab Arab stud.  Even the polish states stud, SK Michalow Arab stud, could see his unmistakable aptitude and bred him to their existing Polish-bred broodmares by leasing him for a few breeding seasons.

His most illustrious offspring in South Africa are;

*Georgetown [out of Georgia] grey polish-bred stallion imported and currently owned by Azrek Arabians of Dr. Wynand Van Der Westhuisen, in BothaVille, Freestate.   Another one of Gazal Al Shaqab’s offspring is the young mare, *Lady Amadeus VLA [out of Gloryeus], imported and owned by Tinus & Francisca Strydom of Strydom stud in Bronkhorstspruit, Gauteng.   Then there is the young mare, XA Countess Gazal [out of La Countessa], together with her paternal half sister [out of *Just MyStyle VF] born 23rd June 2008. Both of them reside at Xian Arabians of Mr. Ian Smith and family.  One of Gazal Al Shaqab’s grand-daughters, *Bint Starbright Bey [sired by Besson Carol and out of the Gazal Al Shaqab daughter, Starbright Bey] was imported to South Africa a few years back by Elkasun Arabians of Mr. Willy Brown

Marwan Al Shaqab

[Gazal Al Shaqab x Little Liza Fame]

Gazal Al Shaqab’s most famous son, Marwan Al Shaqab [out of Little Liza Fame] also boasts quite a number of offspring in South Africa.  Being also bred by Al Shaqab stud in Qatar he has quite a number of show accomplishments behind his name, being the 2001 Junior Champion Stallion at the Qatar International Show and both 2001&2002 World Junior Champion Stallion, together with the 2002 All Nations Cup Junior Champion Stallion.  Furthermore he became the 2002 European Junior Champion Stallion and in 2003 United States National Champion Junior Stallion. He also became the US National Junior Champion stallion in 2005. Recently he was awarded the 2008 All Nations Cup Senior Champion Stallion.

His most known descendants imported to South Africa are;

*Marbey DeSha [out of C Starlite Bey] bay mare &  *Ciska DeSha [out of Shalina El Jamaal] bay mare.  Both these two mares are in the possession of Strydom stud of Tinus & Francisca Strydom, together with the 2 stallions, *Markee [out of BA Famous Lace] bay stallion and his paternal brother, *MH Ahsom [out of MerriPrecious].

Then again, Xian Arabians are the proud owners of the bay mare, *Marcella X [out of *After All VF] together with, XA Echo of Marwan [out of HM Echos Heiress].

Last but not least is the horses at Elkasun Arabians who is also the proud descendants of Marwan Al Shaqab, and they are;

The grey Mare, *Pheaddra [out of Patrina De Parys], and a bay mare, *MA Marakka [out of SH Sunset Serenade] together with the bay colt, EKS Marwada [out of *MSA Veronica] and the bay filly, EKS Justina [out of *MSA Veronica].

He also possesses an exquisite bay filly sired by the Gazal Al Shaqab stallion, EKS Bay Al Gazal (who was sold to Mystica Arabians in the USA).  She is EKS Siralima [out of EKS Amazing] and Siralima is therefore also a double Line-bred foal to Deenaa.

Anaza Bay Shahh

[Shaikh Al Badi x Bint Deenaa]

The influence this astonishing Egyptian mare, Deenaa, has on the Arabian breeding stock of today has been of great significance and it seems that her most renowned descendants are still sought after in all Arabian breeding communities even as far as the Polish state studs, in the deserts of Qatar and down-under in Australia, where two of Bint Deenaa’s sons, Anaza El Nizr [sired by Ruminaja Ali] and his three-quarter brother, Anaza Bay Shahh [sired by Shaikh Al Badi] is residing and producing offapring there. The latter of these two is owned by Marion Richmond of Simeon stud, Australia where he is currently one of her primary stud stallions.

We, here in South Africa can therefore deem ourselves very fortunate to have some descendants of Deenaa’s most famous offspring available to breed from in the Southern tip of Africa for future generations to come.
