The name Shah Jahan comes from the
Persian meaning “King of the World”.

While I was busy doing some research on the web, I came upon this aforementioned phrase and decided to write about the Egyptian stallion, imported to South Africa, and his progeny’s achievements, with that same name.   *Shah Jahan [Shakhs x Bint Jehan] was born on the 5th of January 1977 at Lodge Farm Arabian stud, Somerset, in the United Kingdom. This illustrious stallion was imported by  Mr. Noel Lancaster  (Mount Silic Arab stud) & Me Betty Perks (Deseli Arabians) and he arrived in South Africa on the 5th of October 1978, as a yearling colt.  From the onset he was a show-stopper and acquired plenty of Rosettes at a wide selection of shows.

At Mount Siic stud the Lancasters and Me. Perks bred most of their Crabbet-bred Arab mares to him. His oldest daughters, Shari-Silic Shahrain [out of Ahbot Quarhabot] and Deseli Kasshah [out of Timarie Princess Kasala],did him proud in the show ring being triumphant as champion Arab horses.  He is also the sire of the Multiple Champion Park Horse stallion, FanMar Shari [out of Ahbot Sadri], owned by Mr. Faan Jacobs, and the stallion Shari-Silic Aswan [out of Moubarek Rejoice] owned by Askari Arabians.

This was not all his progeny had acclaimed, either.  At a short distance race meeting of the Amateur Turf club held on the 23rd of November 1985 another son of Shah Jahan, Shari-Silic Shahid [out of Edenglen Cilzen] showed what he was made of by finishing 2nd in the 2200m Arabian Breeders Sweepstakes.  9 Arab horses were entered and a new record time was set here of 2 min 36,07 secs.  Shahid was ridden for Mount Silic stud by G. Vorster.

As a Grand sire, *Shah Jahan's descendants also did him proud.  Shari-Silic Ayesha  [Jelby Robaan x Shari-Silic Shahrain] was awarded a Legion of Merit for her winnings in several halter classes and also a Legion of Merit for winning several Riding classes.

Thus far, the straight Egyptian stallion, *Shah Jahan, gave South Africa a legacy of progeny excelling in different types of riding and showing disciplines.
